Inside: How to make a cootie catcher
You may be asking, “What is a cootie catcher?” Well, let me throw back to grammar school days, we use to love playing with these during recess. We loved feeling like we could predict our future husbands, careers and if the cute new boy would have a crush on us! So to spread that playful luck, I’m going to show you how to make a cootie catcher.
To add a little Irish flair for St. Patricks day we rounded off the corners you are left with a very lucky paper clover cootie catcher. Write in four special treats and enjoy celebrating the holiday in whichever way your luck may lead!
How to Make a Cootie Catcher
All that is needed for this project is a single sheet of green paper, scissors, and a white crayon or pencil.
- Fold the paper corner to the edge and cut off the remaining strip to leave a square.
- Next, fold each of your four corners into the center of your sheet and crease.
- Turn the paper over to the other side and fold each corner over again and crease, this will leave you with the basic shape of a cootie catcher.
- Take the pointed single ends that stick of the top and using scissors around your points down. Once all four points are rounded you will be left with a paper four leaf clover!
- In the interior of the catcher, write in four different lucky treats, ie. “so lucky we get to eat pizza!”
Spend a few minutes playing the game with your kids and treating them accordingly. This would also make a fun activity for a St. Patrick’s Day playdate or party!

PS. Last year, as one of my first projects shared online, I made shamrock cupcakes.
OH. MY. GOODNESS. This is genius! What an adorable idea, and so simple to make. I’ve always been into cootie catchers: http://designfixation.blogspot.com/2010/06/cootie-catcher-for-you.html
I miss those! We used to make those daily in junior high:)
Cute idea!
So cute! We had some friends who made personalized cootie catchers and used them as part of their wedding decor :)
Have a great day!
I love this! I’m a school teacher and will be making this with my fourth years. They’re going to love it!
