Ring Tied T-Shirt Rug

I have so many house updates I am dying to make this season. An avid believer of making every day and every space revelrous, we aim for light, bright and unabashedly festive whenever possible in our house. This ring tied rug made with bright t-shirts is a gorgeous example. And, it is easy enough to pull together this weekend – right after you clean out that pesky closet. YAY for spring!

The process to make this rug is a piece of cake, but it will take a couple hours to put together. Be prepared with a full Netflix cue to distract while you cut and tie. All that is needed are several bright colored shirts, with a little stretch in them, and a pair of scissors.

To make the ring tied rug, cut strips 3/4″ wide from the t-shirts, then stretch them lightly. Wind the strips around one hand to create little circles. Next, using the hem pieces, cut smaller pieces that can be used to tie the circles together into long strips.

Once you have the strips in place (we did nine strips wide about 3 feet long), use the hem lines to tie the strips together to create a larger rug. Tie each circle for a more structured look, or tie every 4th circle (like we did) for a rug that looks happily thrown into place. It is a great spring update for next week’s brunch!
